Lazy Mom

I spent this rainy Saturday reading a book all day long.  It was supposed to be only for about 30 minutes, until the washing machine finished.  But it was late afternoon when I was finished with the book, which was when I was finally able to put it down.  I had even forgotten to eat anything.

The book was "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett.

I am grateful for my husband who didn't complain at all, but instead took out the kids and had lunch with them.

The downside of coming across a great book, is that it has a big impact on my daily routine as a mother and one who usually takes charge of the house chores.
It had always been like this for me.  I'd read straight through a boring class, a blank notebook in front of me.  I'd have my nose in between a book, walking across the platform and up the escalator while I changed lines during my commute.

It wasn't less than a month ago I was up past 3am to finish a book, when I had to wake up in three hours with a full weekday ahead.  Boy was I in a foul mood.  Poor kids.

I hope to rent the movie sometime soon.  I'm interested to see how white women dress in the 60s, how one of them sews her clothes, how one of the maids makes the deliciously described fried chickens and caramel pies.  I hope there aren't many violent scenes since I am such a chicken when it comes to pictures in motion.  Yes, coming out of someone who read "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" while she breast fed her daughter, who read 13 books of slaughter and torture in "Sangoku-shi", a historical fiction about The Three Kingdom Era in China.

Now, what to read next.
